Circular route 2 takes us on an approximately 11 km loop around the 450 m high Mühlberg. We begin by following the Kellerwaldsteig trail towards Fürstenberg. An old boundary stone marks the location of the former princely church, where the ruins can still be discerned. Before reaching Fürstenberg, we turn off and eventually join the Lichtenfels Panorama Trail. We follow this trail and arrive at an idyllic stream valley. The path through the side valley is lined with meadows and leads us down to the Itter river. Finally, we reach the source of the reservoir. Ederseeand return to the hiking parking lot.
In Herzhausen, not far from the Mühlenberg hiking car park, is the Kellerwald National Park Centre.EderseeHere we learn exciting information about the national park and also have the opportunity to stop for a bite to eat in the adjacent café.
