The old Asel cemetery is a reminder of the former village of Asel, which was used for the construction of the Ederseehad to give way.

For decades, the old cemetery of Asel has reminded visitors to Asel Bay of the old village of Asel, which was submerged by the waters of the Waldeck dam. EderseeIt had to give way. Individual gravestones above and below the present-day district road still bear witness to this sunken place.
In the 1970s, when the municipality of Asel was still independent, the cemetery was divided: a road was built right through the grounds. This happened as part of the straightening of a dangerous bend on the... Ederseeroad between Vöhl and the Hohe Fahrt.
Since then, the cemetery has been divided into an upper and a lower section. In the upper section, only the so-called "Old Forester's Grave" now recalls the former cemetery. In the lower section, below the road, several gravestones with their corresponding grave enclosures still stand.
During roadworks in recent years, gravestones have repeatedly turned up, which were carefully collected by the residents of Asel and re-erected in the lower part of the cemetery.
Become Edersee Anyone who visits and has the opportunity to see this special place should pause – because here one encounters a piece of living history.
