Funicular to Peterskopf
The modern funicular takes well over 10.000 guests comfortably up to the Peterskopf and back down again every year.
Once you have reached the top, you will find a network of well-developed hiking trails, a place to stop for refreshments near the mountain station (closed until 2027) and a spacious viewing platform at the upper reservoir, from which you can enjoy the view of the Kellerwald-Eder National Park.Edersee and can roam far into the Waldeck region.
Due to construction work, two hiking trails are being diverted and the "Waldbölker" restaurant will unfortunately remain closed until 2.
On the journey to the mountain station, the train covers a distance of 917m, an altitude difference of almost 300m, at a speed of 1,5m/s.
A journey takes around 11 minutes.
The cabin is pulled by a 142 HP electric motor and is attached to a steel cable with a diameter of 40mm.
The funicular to Peterskopf is a cabin with a capacity of 54 people.

Opening hours
- Until 2026, the funicular will only run to Peterskopf on Sundays or public holidays. You can find the available dates on the funicular's website.

There are enough (free) parking spaces available on Kraftwerkstrasse.
There is also a paid mobile home parking space with supplies/disposal on Kraftwerkstrasse.
After a short walk, you reach the valley station of the funicular.

In general, the “AST-Taxi” (CallSammelTaxi) should also be included in the planning. With the CallSammelTaxis (AST), the NVV ensures mobility on routes that are not in great demand. Instead of taking the bus, you can travel here in normal taxis or rental cars. AST also have fixed timetables - you just have to register your wish to travel by telephone (usually) up to 30 minutes before the journey. Also remember that AST only run when there are no normal buses running at the same time.

A new building is being built directly at the mountain station, which
The upper reservoir will be renovated and the pressure pipeline next to the funicular line will be re-conserved.
Therefore, there are some restrictions when visiting Peterskopf.
The top station of the funicular has a new temporary exit towards the path to the top bridge.
From there, a circular path around the large upper reservoir can be reached via the forest path, a crossing point of the Peterskopfstraße and a newly constructed connecting path of the national park, and then there is the possibility of visiting the viewing plateau next to the radio mast.
This path is mostly a trail and cannot be used with walkers, strollers, etc. or by people with limited mobility.
We strongly advise against trying this out of overconfidence.
