Accessibility in the region Edersee

Traveling without barriers is not an extra, but a matter of course.

In Bad Wildungen, a traditional spa town, many facilities are well-equipped for people with mobility impairments. The national park also pursues the goal of making nature accessible to everyone. Free electric scooters are available at the Kellerwald National Park Center, the Wild Animal Park, and the Kellerwald Clock. There are paths that are also easily accessible with wheelchairs or strollers. Eddi's Adventure Tour, for example, is particularly suitable – a qualified hiking trail for families and people with disabilities.

A path is being created in the Elsebach Valley for visually impaired people. The treetop walk is also step-free. Sailing is even possible – a local association rents out boats that are also wheelchair-accessible. Accessible public restrooms are available at many locations, making exploring the region more relaxing for everyone.

Not all offerings in the region are fully accessible, but many businesses and experiences are certified according to the nationwide "Travel for All" standard. This is a nationwide information and evaluation system that provides reliable data on accessibility. This helps ensure better orientation, independent travel, and inclusive vacation experiences. Furthermore, active efforts are being made in numerous areas to reduce barriers and make offerings as accessible as possible.

Lots of service for wheelchair users on vacation

In 2019 we launched the Edersee and immediately fell in love with it. Since then, we've been coming here whenever possible, at least 15 times in total. We also have a ritual; for example, we always visit the Wild Animal Park. The peace and quiet there is wonderful because it's not that crowded, and the view of the lake is beautiful. It was a bit difficult with the wheelchair. What we didn't know the first time was that we could rent an e-scooter there. It's free, and the entrance fee is reduced for wheelchair users. We also rent a boat every time we stay, even in winter.

When we're here, we can completely switch off. The problems stay at home, and we just enjoy ourselves. Even on the way, as we drive through the small villages, I feel a surge of happiness. By the way, and this is very important: There are plenty of parking spaces by the lake and wheelchair-accessible restrooms, some of which are even heated. Everything is very clean.

We always have fun. Here you can do whatever you want, even if you're in a wheelchair.
